      President Obama has ordered the developmentof a supercomputer that is some 20 times faster than the world’s currentrecord-holder and is expected to go online by 2025.　　

      總統(tǒng)奧巴馬已經(jīng)下令發(fā)展超級計算機，這種計算機的速度將是目前最快計算機速度的20倍，并預計于2025年上線。

      A machine at China’s National University ofDefense Technology in Guangzhou, called Tianhe-2 （Milky Way-2） is thought tocurrently be the fastest supercomputer in existence — variously reported asdoing either 34 or 55 petaflops （1 petaflop isequivalent to 1 quadrillion floating-point operations per second）。

      The executive order, issued by Obama onWednesday, would set up a body known as the National Strategic ComputingInitiative （NSCI） to research and build what is hoped to become the firstmachine to hit 1 exaflop,equivalent to 1,000 petaflops.
